12-Point Engineering Diagnostics and Health Checkup

What’s Included: 12‑Point Engineering Diagnostics & Health Check

We don’t guess—we measure. This inspection verifies the health of your machine’s battery, starting/charging system, wiring, protection, and accessory integration using professional test methods.

12‑Point Checklist (what we actually check):

  • 1) Battery condition & terminals — state of charge, terminal tightness, corrosion, cable condition
  • 2) Cranking performance — cranking voltage behavior and starter feed integrity
  • 3) Charging output — charging voltage behavior at idle and elevated RPM
  • 4) Charging stability — abnormal ripple/noise indicators (electrical “dirty power”)
  • 5) Main power feed voltage drop — battery to starter / main distribution
  • 6) Main ground voltage drop — battery negative to engine/frame ground points
  • 7) Fuse & circuit protection check — correct fuse sizing, signs of heat/overload, poor connections
  • 8) Relay function verification — relay operation and common failure patterns (when equipped)
  • 9) Key switch / run-stop circuit integrity — loss points that cause cutouts/no‑start symptoms
  • 10) Harness & connector inspection — rub points, pinch points, water intrusion, corrosion, loose pins
  • 11) Parasitic draw / battery drain test — key‑off draw measurement and isolation direction
  • 12) Accessory wiring audit (if applicable) — fusing, wire gauge, routing, switching/relay control, clean power distribution

Covers common problems like:

  • No‑start / no‑crank
  • Random shutoffs and intermittent cutouts
  • Dead batteries / battery drain
  • Charging problems (stator/regulator/connection losses)
  • Blown fuses, melted connectors, flickering lights
  • Accessory power faults and messy wiring installs

Why Choose Ampere Engineering LLC for your PowerSport Needs?

Why it matters:
Most “electrical gremlins” are caused by voltage drop, weak grounds, corrosion, or poor accessory integration—not a bad part. This health check prevents wasted parts, repeat breakdowns, and helps protect expensive electronics.

What you get:

  • Clear results you can understand (what’s OK / marginal / needs repair)
  • A prioritized action list (what to fix first for reliability and safety)
  • Repair options if you want us to handle corrections

Use the form below to schedule your free diagnostic session with Ampere Engineering. We service motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, SxS, and custom builds.

Important: The free diagnostic session is a quick triage check, not an advanced root‑cause diagnostic. If deeper testing is needed (intermittent faults, harness isolation, parasitic draw isolation, waveform verification, etc.), we’ll recommend a paid Engineering Diagnostics appointment.

Power Sports and Electronic Services FAQ

Please reach us at contact@ampereengineering.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes. Our 12‑Point Engineering Health Check is included at no charge with any paid service (repairs, installs, wiring work, etc.). It’s our baseline to confirm the electrical foundation is solid before (and after) work is performed.

It’s a structured electrical health inspection covering:

  • Battery condition and connections
  • Cranking performance and voltage behavior
  • Charging output and stability
  • Main power and main ground voltage drop checks
  • Fuse/protection and common heat/overload indicators
  • Relay function verification (when equipped)
  • Key switch / run-stop integrity checks (as applicable)
  • Harness and connector inspection (rub points, corrosion, water intrusion, loose pins)
  • Parasitic draw / battery drain screening (when symptoms indicate)
  • Accessory wiring audit (when accessories are present)

Often, yes—but the free inclusion is with a paid service. If you want a standalone health check, reach out and we’ll confirm availability and pricing based on your machine and goals.

Most motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, SxS, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and many custom builds. If it’s powersports and electrical, we’re usually a good fit.

Most motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, SxS, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and many custom builds. If it’s powersports and electrical, we’re usually a good fit.

Common wins include:

  • No‑start / no‑crank conditions
  • Random shutdowns and intermittent cutouts
  • Weak grounds and voltage drop issues
  • Charging problems that “look fine” but aren’t stable
  • Blown fuses, hot connectors, melted plugs
  • Battery drain / parasitic draw symptoms
  • Accessory installs causing strange electrical behavior

It’s not a full mechanical inspection and not a full root-cause investigation for every intermittent fault. It’s an engineering-grade health screening designed to quickly confirm system integrity and highlight where deeper diagnosis is needed.

It’s a quick triage-style assessment to understand what you’re dealing with and what the next step should be. Think: “What’s the likely direction, what’s obviously wrong, and what service level makes sense?”

Typically:

  • A short symptom interview (what happened, when, what changed)
  • Basic visual inspection of obvious failure points (battery terminals, main grounds, obvious harness damage, accessory wiring red flags)
  • Quick high-level checks where appropriate (basic power/ground sanity, obvious blown fuse patterns, obvious charging/battery red flags)

It is not a deep diagnostic session or a full teardown.

Free Evaluation = quick check + guidance.
Paid Diagnostics = measured troubleshooting + root cause confirmation.

Paid diagnostics may include things like:

  • Circuit-by-circuit voltage drop testing under load
  • Harness tracing and isolation of intermittent opens/shorts
  • Parasitic draw isolation to a specific circuit/component
  • Oscilloscope/waveform verification for charging ripple, sensor signals, or control issues
  • Connector depinning/inspection, targeted disassembly, and verification testing

Because true root-cause diagnostics takes real bench time and structured testing. The free evaluation is designed to save you money by preventing guesswork and pointing you toward the right scope of work.

If it’s a simple, obvious issue and you approve moving forward, we can often transition into paid service. Otherwise, we’ll outline:

  • What we found
  • What we recommend next
  • What level of diagnostics (if any) is required before repairs make sense

We’ll give you a clear direction and options. If the repair scope is straightforward, we can estimate quickly. If it’s intermittent/complex, we’ll recommend a paid diagnostic block first so we’re not guessing.

If you have them:

  • Key/fob(s)
  • Notes on when the issue occurs (cold, hot, bumps, rain, after charging, etc.)
  • Any recent changes (battery, stator/regulator, accessories, jump-start events)
  • Aftermarket wiring notes, accessory brand/model info, or install diagrams (if available)

Yes—intermittents are common. We may recommend:

  • A deeper diagnostic session
  • Reproducing conditions (temperature, vibration, load)
  • A staged approach: baseline health check → isolation testing → confirm root cause → repair

Absolutely. We can audit accessory wiring for:

  • Proper fusing and wire gauge
  • Clean routing and strain relief
  • Correct switching/relay control
  • Reliable, serviceable power distribution

Yes. We regularly diagnose and correct:

  • Poor crimps/splices
  • Undersized wiring
  • Misplaced fuses
  • Bad grounds
  • Messy routing that causes future failures

We recommend what’s most reliable:

  • If a connection or wiring fault is the true cause, we fix that (instead of throwing parts).
  • If a component has genuinely failed, we’ll discuss OEM vs reputable aftermarket options.

We’ll tell you plainly and prioritize safety. If something poses a real risk (heat damage, compromised main power, unsafe accessory wiring), we’ll recommend correcting it before continued riding.

Yes—at minimum you’ll get a clear summary of results and recommended next steps. For larger jobs, we can provide more detailed notes/photos as appropriate.

Use the contact form on the site or reach out directly—tell us your machine and symptoms, and we’ll route you to the right service level (free evaluation vs paid diagnostics vs direct repair).
